Formed in Sydney in 1977, INXS spent a decade building from pub-rock roots to global stardom, fusing funk, dance and rock under the guidance of British producer Chris Thomas across three consecutive albums (The Swing, Listen Like Thieves, Kick). Fronted by the charismatic Michael Hutchence, the band's persistence paid off when 1987's Kick -- initially rejected by their own US label -- became a six-times-platinum breakthrough that turned them into one of the era's defining arena acts.
