What began as a third Lindsey Buckingham solo album -- three songs ('Big Love,' 'Family Man,' 'Caroline') recorded alone at his home studio in 1985 -- was reshaped into a full Fleetwood Mac record after drummer Mick Fleetwood talked him into folding it back into the band. Stevie Nicks, mid-tour for her own solo album and battling addiction, spent only two to three weeks in the studio, leaving Buckingham to salvage or rerecord much of her material. The album, built on state-of-the-art sampling and synth textures, became the band's second-biggest seller after Rumours (15 million+ copies) -- but the tension it caused led Buckingham to quit the band in a violent confrontation just months after release, making it the last studio album by the classic five-piece lineup for a decade.
